The person beside you in this work

You can be capable
and still need support.

I’m Selma, a licensed psychotherapist and the gatherer behind Balkan Mama Therapy. I bring my experience working with Balkan women, my clinical training and my understanding of our culture into how I guide these retreats. We consider the real demands placed on women alongside the patterns each of us wants to change.

You choose what you share and how you participate. Before you book, we’ll talk about what you need and whether the retreat is a good fit. You do not need to have everything figured out before we speak.

Start by exploring the retreat that interests you. You’ll find the program and the form to begin our conversation on that page.

Before you choose

Still deciding?

You can explore both pages before taking the next step. Our conversation gives you room to ask about the experience and whether it fits where you are now.

How are the retreats different?

You Belong Here is a four-day mountain weekend for Balkan women who live between two worlds and are tired of holding everything up for everyone. The group is limited to 10, with somatic exercises, breathwork, Compassionate Inquiry-informed group work, family constellations and healing circles. Light forest and mountain-trail walks, shared meals, music and laughter are part of our time together, with room to rest and choose how you participate.

Back to Our Roots is five days in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with more time to explore family expectations, identity and the roles you carry, alongside shared experiences in our homeland.

Both include guided work and time to rest. Choose based on what you want to explore, how much time you can take away and where you would like to be.

Can I attend on my own?

Yes. You can come without knowing anyone else in the group. Guided introductions, meals and time together give you opportunities to get to know the women beside you, at your own pace.

How do pricing and rooms work?

North Carolina is $1,257 per person for shared accommodation or $1,775 for a private room, in USD. A $500 non-refundable deposit goes toward the total, with payment plans available for the balance. The starting price shown for Back to Our Roots is per person for shared accommodation, the scheduled retreat program and meals. Flights and ground transport are separate for both retreats.

Room arrangements differ: at You Belong Here in North Carolina, two women share one king-size bed and the room’s bathroom. At Back to Our Roots, the shared room has two double beds. Review the individual retreat page for the full arrangements and terms before deciding.

How do I take the next step?

Open the page for the retreat you want to explore, review the program and complete its form. You’ll have a conversation with Selma before deciding about booking. Completing a form does not reserve a place or require payment.
